Operating with integrity

Last week, we published our 2019-20 Corporate Responsibility (CR) report, detailing the actions we have taken during the last year on responsible business issues such as our people and our communities, our environmental performance, and our supply chain.
Over the course of this week, we will share key highlights, performance and facts from this year’s report, which you can read in full online by clicking here.
What does the CR report cover?
Our CR strategy and our role in society
Royal Mail plays a significant role in life in the UK. This vital role was demonstrated by the fact that our employees were recognised as key workers by the UK Government during the Covid-19 pandemic. The CR report details the role of the business across the UK, and how CR remains at the centre of our business strategy and vital to our success.
Our customers
Key trends in e-commerce, Click and Collect and next-day delivery services are changing our mail bags. We have seen that change accelerate further with the pandemic. The CR report sets out the priorities our customers tell us are important to them, our performance, and the new initiatives and services we have launched to ensure we remain easy to do business with for both consumers and business customers.
Our people
Our people play an important role in achieving our strategic priorities. The report outlines our work to listen to our employees and make improvements to increase employee engagement, our investment in learning and development and rewarding people fairly, and our efforts to provide a diverse and inclusive work environment.
The health, safety and wellbeing of our people and the communities we operate in remains of paramount importance. We report our safety performance and key programmes and initiatives to drive improvement. We also report on the important role of our people during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the measures introduced to protect and support them.
Our communities
Royal Mail seeks to be an integral, valued and trusted part of every community that our service reaches. Our CR report outlines our economic and social impacts and celebrates the amazing fundraising efforts of our colleagues. We also highlight some of the many examples of our postmen and women going above and beyond to support their communities.
Our business standards
Royal Mail is committed to operating with integrity. Ensuring that we maintain the trust of our customers and all our stakeholders is fundamental to our success. The report sets out our approach to business integrity, including our commitment to protect human rights within our business and supply chain.
Our suppliers
We are committed to working across our supply chain to have a positive impact on society and the environment. The report provides information on how we work collaboratively with our suppliers to encourage improving standards of social, environmental and ethical conduct, encouraging workforce diversity and sharing best practices.
Our environment
Environmental considerations are a fundamental part of how we do business. The report sets out the new Royal Mail (UKPIL) environment strategy and the progress made in key environmental impacts across the Group, including our carbon emissions, the waste we generate, and our energy and water consumption.
