Huntingdon postman, Steve Day, recognised for his outstanding customer service

Huntingdon postman, Steve Day, has been recognised by colleagues and customers alike for his outstanding service over the past few months.

Huntingdonshire district councillor, Patrick Kadewere, recently got in touch to praise Steve and inform us that he had received the below commendation from a constituent, who had described Steve as ‘the most incredible postman.’

At the beginning of lockdown, we isolated for 12 weeks because my daughter stopped breathing in January and was hospitalised with severe broncilitis. So, for the first few months of lockdown, we didn't see a single soul other than my partner, who was working ridiculous hours, and our wonderful postman, Steve Day.

‘Steve made such an effort for us, taking the time to have a chat out front, asking if we were okay, did we need him to contact anyone for support, or if we needed any sanitizer or essentials to let him know. He has always been a joy to my son, Harrison.

‘I’m aware that on his round, Steve is very much the same with others, always taking the time to check in on those in need and for those more isolated and vulnerable. I genuinely believe that during these past few months, Steve has been a huge source of encouragement.

‘We get a lot of parcels and since day one, Steve has been so strict with the way he has handled our post. He even knocked on our door to read out some of Royal Mail’s new rules that they had set in place, but he made sure to tell Harrison that he was still his little friend, even though he had to wave from a distance.

‘Despite knowing full well when Steve’s soaking wet and isn’t really feeling all that smiley, come rain or shine, he always has a huge smile on his face. We are so fortunate to have such an amazing community here with so much support and I just feel that those who go above and beyond, should receive some form of recognition.’

Councillor, Kadewere, said: ‘We are incredibly proud of how hard all of our key workers have worked throughout this pandemic. We are running the Covid-19 response team for Huntingdon and will be sending Mr Day a certificate signed by our organisation, myself as district councillor and the Mayor of Huntingdon in recognition of his efforts.’

Colleagues at Huntingdon Mail Processing Unit (MPU) held a presentation ceremony for Steve.

Huntingdon MPU delivery manager, Andrew Dear, said: ‘Steve is a popular and longstanding member of the team in Huntingdon, who thinks about his customers all the time to ensure he gives them good customer service.’
