Postman Jonny Wilson is helping to make kids’ dreams come true

Norwich postman Jonny Wilson has been putting his ‘Spidey’ senses to the test, while bringing a smile to people’s faces – young and old – by dressing up as the popular superhero.

Jonny started donning his Spiderman costume during his 800-home round in Lakenham to celebrate reaching the £1,000 fundraising milestone for a children’s charity.

Dad of four Jonny is raising as much money as he can for Make-a-Wish UK – a charity, which helps to fulfil the wishes of terminally ill children – by not shaving his facial hair until 31 December.

Jonny, who has been a postman since 2006 and delivered round Lakenham for the past eight years, told the Eastern Daily Press: ‘I was a bit nervous beforehand, but the reaction was brilliant. People were shouting and cheering. It was like a carnival atmosphere. There was a real buzz.

‘Lakenham really gets involved in things like this. It’s a good community to deliver for. Every single person, whether they were five-years-old or over 60, laughed about it. It made people smile. For all the children who were stuck indoors during lockdown, it made their day.’

Jonny has now raised more than £3,840 and has promised to keep dressing up for his four-hour round, which he does on foot. ‘I’ll be a Disney princess - a very hairy one,’ he said.

He hopes to do more physical challenges for the children’s charity including running the City of Norwich half-marathon on 25 October, dressed as Forrest Gump.

Jonny has raised more than £4,000 for charities in the past, mainly through physical challenges, for Macmillan Cancer Support, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Cancer Research UK.

‘It is an honour to do this,’ he added. ‘I’m happy to help them out. I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported me and donated so far. We really are helping towards making those dreams come true. Thank you.’
