‘Trust in our people’

CEO Stuart Simpson visited colleagues in Edinburgh last week to thank teams at Edinburgh Mail Centre and Edinburgh City Delivery Office for their tremendous work since the pandemic began.
Stuart also held a town hall at Tallents House, but not before he took a tour of the business and met a familiar foe (pictured).
Edinburgh City delivery office manager, Scott Marsland, said: ‘In the knowledge that we’re living and working in unprecedented times, our frontline staff have continued to demonstrate incredible flexibility and fortitude to maintain the vital postal services that support the people, commerce and infrastructure of Scotland’s capital.
‘From the outset of Covid 19, we have worked hand in hand with our CWU colleagues risk-assessing and overcoming the challenges of working safely in environments constrained by social distancing, single van usage, staggered start times, and processed and delivered parcel volumes normally reserved for Christmas, while at the same time, maintaining the quality of service and trust, customers have learned to expect of Royal Mail.
‘Over the past few months, the Edinburgh City Delivery office has received collectively and individually numerous forms of praise, recognition and thanks from the general public. This acknowledgement from customers for our endeavours continues to fuel an enormous source of pride and professionalism within our people and allows them to appreciate that they genuinely are “key workers.”
‘Stuart`s visit and the personal thanks he afforded everyone for their commitment to customer focus was appreciated by all. A number of colleagues said how much respect they gave Stuart for not only visiting Edinburgh during Covid-19, but equally, for taking the time to introduce himself and listen to questions and concerns from everyone on a personal level. We hope to see him again one day and trust he enjoyed his visit to Edinburgh.’
Plant manager, Ross Anderson, from Edinburgh Mail Centre, said: ‘Stuart spent time on both the late and night shifts, walking around the shop floor to recognise the efforts and dedication of the team.
‘He also met a number of frontline colleagues to listen to their thoughts on how Royal Mail is doing and answer questions on the strategic direction of the business. The team welcomed the opportunity to meet and speak with Stuart, and the feedback he gave was very encouraging as it showed trust in our people.
‘Over the past few months, everyone in the Edinburgh plant has worked brilliantly through extremely challenging situations, doing this with dedication and commitment. This has allowed us to continue to serve our community, keeping people in touch and more importantly, providing a key worker service to the people who have needed it most.’
