The Chester night shift team raises £720 for their Macmillan ‘coffee night’

Postwoman Laura Reynolds, from Chester Mail Centre recently had her head shaved so she could donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides real hair wigs to children, who have lost their own hair as a result of cancer treatment or other conditions.

In a show of solidarity, Laura’s colleagues ran a ‘coffee night,’ for Macmillan Cancer Support, with the night shift team baking no less than 22 cakes.

Shift manager, Jacob Sykes, said: ‘The winning cake was an eight-layer honey cake, which bowled everyone on the shift over. It was so delicious! We had a huge variety of submissions, from glitter cakes and an Orio extravaganza, to a more subtle, but equally good lemon cake.

‘In total, we raised £720 before any matched giving was added. It was a great opportunity to support a great cause, while having some fun on the shift at the same time.

‘The team here at Chester Mail Centre have been performing amazingly and have dealt with everything the pandemic has thrown at us so far, really well.

‘We’ve seen our Tracked workload almost double and a huge rise in inward parcels. But I’ve been so impressed with how the team have handled the situation and come up with solutions to keep everyone safe, while still delivering on our customer promise.

‘It has been a really challenging, but equally, rewarding past few months. It has been amazing to see just how engaged the team has been.’
