Sandy’s surprise

Dunfermline postman of six years, Sandy Scott, was left speechless by his kind-hearted customers when they lined their street in a surprise show of affection for their local hero.
Sandy Scott thought the ‘Duloch Spiderman’ was en route to Kingfisher Place when he saw familiar faces from the cul-de-sac outside their homes. But much to his surprise, it soon became clear that it was actually him they were waiting for, not Spidey.
Sandy had made his way to the street around 4pm and stopped to chat with a customer he’s known for years as a result of regularly delivering to his address.
‘I was chatting to him with his wife and kid and suddenly he said, “Sandy, we’ve got you a present,” Sandy told the Dunfermline Press.
‘I walked around the corner and I then saw the street and there were all these people standing looking towards me. I thought they were all waiting for the Duloch Spiderman to come racing through!
‘One of the residents then gave me this big card and a gift, which they all pitched in for. I was speechless. The card was like a book filled with comments from the whole road. They put a lot of thought into it, the card (which featured Postman Pat and his van) had a custom sticker on it saying: “Postman Sandy” with the van’s registration as “Sandy 1.”
Sandy said he was humbled to be recognised for his efforts during the ongoing pandemic by his customers on Kingfisher Place, adding that he felt like a ‘superstar.’
‘It really was great to read everyone’s comments and receive the card and gift from them,’ he said. ‘I just want to say thank you again. It’s very much appreciated.’
