Returns boom

Lockdown returns hotspots revealed as traffic increases

A 25 per cent increase in returns traffic, on the back of the lockdown-led e-commerce boom, demonstrates further why Royal Mail must change.

The findings are based on analysis of Tracked Returns 48 items accepted into the Royal Mail network in an average week between 29 June 2020 to 2 August 2020, compared with July 2019.

We’re determined to take advantage of the significant growth in parcels, which includes returns traffic and are identifying ways we can better help our customers in this area.

Nick Landon, chief commercial officer, said: ‘With e-commerce playing an important role in keeping the UK connected during such unprecedented times, online returns form an even more important part of the online shopping experience for both consumers and retailers.’

As part of the findings, we’ve revealed the areas in the UK where consumers have returned the most items as lockdown restrictions began to lift. St Albans tops the list, closely followed by Watford and Kingston-upon-Thames.
