Special recognition for Penzance Delivery Office in this year’s CEO and COO Awards

The annual winners of the 2019/20 CEO and COO Awards have been announced. Co-sponsored by CEO, Stuart Simpson, and COO, Achim Dünnwald, the awards recognise and reward excellence in our operational units.

Penzance Delivery Office is this year’s proud winner of the Special Recognition Award – and for a flavour of why it deserves success, play the above feature video.

The team received a visit from field operations director, Ricky McAulay, who presented colleagues with prizes including £50,00 to spend on their unit, gold lanyards, pin badges, a special commemorative plaque and breakfast to celebrate their outstanding achievements.

The unit finished first in the Vital Few for the South West – despite being at the end of the network and with responsibility for the Isles of Scilly. In addition, they led the way in the Covid-19 home test kit trials. Their outstanding commitment to delivering for the country during the 2019 General Election has also been commended.

Delivery office manager, Jonathan Binney, said: ‘Ricky came a long way and the staff here were grateful he made it. I thought it went very well, colleagues welcomed him and he took the time to speak with all of them in the short time he was here.’

Postman, Simon Rogers, said: ‘It is absolutely fantastic that we have been recognised for everything that we have done – working for each other and with each other – especially during Covid-19; it has been challenging times. But to be given this – it is an honour. We are chuffed to bits.’

Jonathan added: ‘I think that we are a long way from the rest of the country and sometimes forgotten about. This award shows the guys here they are just as important and have really done well to receive the recognition they have received.

‘We are a large family unit and have always worked as a team supporting one another. We have couples, brothers and sisters and sons and fathers within the unit, and whilst we span 18 to 63 in age and from 39 years to one year in service. There is a strong team unity that provides help and assistance where needed.’

‘We have formed a committee to decide how and what to spend the money on. There are a number of ideas – from a new coffee machine to a kitchen overall and some to be donated to a charity – but nothing in stone yet.’

During the visit, Ricky was presented with portraits of himself and Stuart Simpson by Cornish artist, and postwoman, Nicky Huxham. Make sure you watch until the end of this week’s RMtv, at myroyalmail.com/RMtv to check the pictures out!
