Shiver me timbers

Postman, Brandon Clark, has been cheering up his customers in Droitwich by turning up to work as Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean, the genie from Aladdin and even a hot dog
Customer Carole Brady, from the Westlands estate in Droitwich where Brandon delivers, said he is ‘absolutely brilliant’ and always makes everyone’s day.
‘The children, (and grownups) look out for him from Monday to Friday to see who is delivering the letters that day,’ she told the Worcester News. ‘Neighbours have also donated costumes, and some have actually bought them especially for Brandon to wear on his rounds.
‘He is always such a happy chap. Before he knocks on our door you can hear all the cars beeping at him while he is in his outfit. The other day an ambulance drove down our street and they even put their sirens on for him. Because our house is one of the first on the street he bangs on the door, we take a photo and put it on Facebook, then everyone knows Brandon is on his way. It’s something to look forward to and gets everyone’s day off to a good start.
‘It’s lovely that a young man takes the time to brighten so many people’s day. It’s fabulous. I hope it continues when all this is over because it’s exactly how it should be – the community coming together and doing things to make everyone smile.’
Meanwhile, Newtown colleagues have raised £1,800 for the local food bank, which is run by the Newtown Salvation Army and other groups and charities in the town. This is on top of the more than £7,000 they raised for the NHS.
Colleagues in Grantham have also raised £1,800 for the NHS by dressing up in a variety of costumers, including Batman, Where’s Wally, Bananaman, an astronaut, an angel and even a parcel. It’s the second time the team of more than 20 have donned fancy dress to raise money for the NHS Charities Together charity.
The fancy dress fund-raiser was the idea of Martyn Gough, a postman at Carlton Delivery Office in Nottingham, after a colleague fell ill with the coronavirus. Martin said he wanted to raise funds for the NHS ‘as a way of giving something back’ following his friend’s successful treatment.
Peter Rowley, a customer who lives in Harlaxton, got in touch with the Grantham Journal after receiving his post from a walking scarecrow. ‘We had a wonderful surprise in Harlaxton,’ he said. ‘Our postman, Trevor Watson, turned up as a scarecrow. Big thank you to Trevor, his colleagues and Grantham Delivery Office for supporting our superb NHS.’
Grantham postman, Mark Beecham said: ‘The fancy dress days have been well received, customers have thanked us for raising a smile in these difficult and challenging times. We thank them for their generosity.’
