Helping Royal Mail thrive

‘We stand in solidarity with our black, Asian and minority ethnic colleagues’

Since George Floyd’s murder on 25 May, which has sparked outrage and anti-racism protests around the world, we have thought long and hard about what Royal Mail can do to support our black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) colleagues.

The tragic killing in the United States has put a spotlight on the existence of diversity in large businesses, such as our own.

Press play to hear from Pooja Bagga, IT director RMG operations and exec sponsor of the BAME steering group, on the role our BAME network plays and what more Royal Mail can do to champion an inclusive culture.

‘I think we’d be naïve if we thought we don’t have any issues,’ said Pooja. ‘Along with the UK generally, there are issues within the business. But there is a clear commitment at Royal Mail that we will not tolerate any kind of racism or discrimination.

‘We stand in solidarity with our black, Asian and minority ethnic colleagues, particularly during these challenging times. I would urge anyone and everyone to please speak up if you see any incidents of racism within the company.’

Supporting BAME colleagues

Making our business a place where black, Asian and minority ethnic colleagues can achieve their potential remains a priority.

Career progression is a key focus as we work towards improving the representation of colleagues from BAME backgrounds across all levels of the business. We need to build greater awareness that the network exists and is there to support our people and shine a light on all the good, positive things we are doing across the business.

If you are thinking about holding a BAME cultural event in your unit, and need some help, please reach out to the BAME steering group, or volunteer to help out with their activities. You can contact the group by emailing bame@royalmail.com.
