Trophies for T-shirts

As we all know, lockdown has revealed local superheroes in all walks of life, and now, colleagues in an Aberdeenshire town are dressing accordingly.
More than 70 colleagues in the Inverurie area have been donning Superman t-shirts while carrying out their rounds, raising more than £250 for NHS staff at Inverurie Hospital in the process.
The super-shirts, emblazoned with ‘Inverurie Posties,’ are being worn by colleagues delivering to the AB51 and AB52 areas, as well as by those grafting in the town’s delivery office.
Inverurie delivery office manager David Cruickshank suggested the idea to postman and fundraising champion, Graham Watson. Never one to turn down a fundraising challenge, Graham got on the case and organised the special t-shirts, which have been designed by Lee Duffy in Corby, and to date, distributed to more than 130 delivery offices across the UK. The proceeds of the sale of the t-shirts – which Inverurie colleagues bought themselves – went to the Friends of Inverurie Hospital charity.
‘I usually do quite a bit of fundraising, but with this pandemic I obviously can’t,’ said Graham. ‘So, when David asked me to help with this, it seemed an ideal way to keep my hand in and help other key workers. It shows the generosity of the postal workers in Inverurie. We actually bought the largest number of t-shirts from Lee Duffy and were sent a trophy for our troubles, which was the icing on the cake really!’
David added: ‘I thought it would be a good idea to boost morale, have a laugh and raise some money to help the local hospital at the same time. They have come together over the last month or so like nothing I have ever seen, and they are always willing to help the community and the office in what are extremely challenging and difficult times.
‘I honestly can’t put into words how proud I am of every single one of them dealing with such extreme changes both at work and at home. They truly are an asset, not only to Inverurie but to the company and the country.’
