Peace of mind

As a business, we invest in continuous improvements to help us more effectively handle and deliver the changing mailbag while offering an excellent customer experience.
A recent example is the extension of our Safeplace delivery option to include Royal Mail 24 and 48 Standard parcels. Already offered on Royal Mail Tracked 24 and 48 products, Safeplace for Royal Mail 24 and 48 parcels is a delivery location option that customers can select at point of purchase providing the option has been made available by the sending customer.
Widening the range of products that have Safeplace as a delivery option caters to an increasing requirement among customers for contactless delivery, given the current concerns regarding covid-19 and hygiene protocols.
If while a colleague is out on delivery there is no answer at the customer’s address, the label on the parcel will show ‘Safeplace’ and the associated instruction (e.g. leave in shed).
Once the colleague has ensured that the Safeplace is accessible and ‘safe’ – i.e. undercover and out of sight of the general public – the Safeplace option is selected on the PDA, a photograph is taken of the item in the Safeplace, and a Something for You card is put through the customer’s letterbox.
Importantly, broadening our Safeplace capability strengthens our competitiveness in the market, where several other parcel delivery businesses already offer similar choices. More Royal Mail products – such as First Class and Second Class – may also have Safeplace as a delivery location option in the future.
At a time when personal health and safety is foremost, making Safeplace available for Royal Mail 24 and 48 products offers peace of mind to our customers that a contact free delivery option is available for their parcels. Increasing the availability of Safeplace for Royal Mail 24 and 48 products also supports our frontline colleagues, who will have fewer parcels to bring back to the customer service point (CSP); and supports our CSP colleagues who will have fewer customers attending their units.
