There’ll be hell toupee if ‘Simmo’ doesn’t keep his promise to the NHS

Postman of 21 years, Mark Simpson, from Oakham Delivery Office, is preparing to lose his locks in aid of the NHS.

Inspired by the legendary Colonel Sir Thomas Moore’s NHS fundraising record, Mark decided he also wanted to do his part, promising to shave his head if their NHS Charities Together fundraising total reached £500.

Friend and colleague, Oakham postman, Sam Miller, said: ‘Mark’s wife isn’t too keen on the idea of him getting his head shaved, but because he’s raising money for the NHS, she can’t argue with how worthy a cause it is!

‘We initially set a target of £500, which we have now surpassed, so we’re very pleased. We’ve had loads of support from customers on our rounds, and as Mark has been on the same round for a number of years, he’s very well-known and loved.’

‘We’ve received gifts and services from the local area, and a local pub even delivered us all free curry!’ said Mark. ‘We have also had chocolate from Cadbury and received free pizzas from Dominoes, so we have a really strong bond with the people of Rutland.

‘The NHS is an amazing national institution, and it’s under pressure like never before. Every day, workers on the frontline are battling covid-19, many of them living in hotels, totally isolated from their family and friends. We all need to support them in any way we can. If we can all do our bit, it’ll help save lives.’

‘It’ll also be amazing to see “Simmo” with a bald head, so every penny counts!’ said Sam. ‘Thank you to every single one of you. Simmo has expressed his desire to keep raising as much money as he can and has told me he’s going to be shaving his head at the end of this month. So, let’s keep donating and see how far we can get! As soon as Mark shaves his head, we’ll record it and put the video out for all to see. Thanks again!’
