‘Close to our hearts’

A whip around by colleagues at Heathrow Worldwide Distribution Centre (HWDC) has helped raise more than £550 for NHS workers at Wexham Park Hospital.
Colleagues bought essential food supplies and toiletries for hospital staff, who don’t currently have the time to shop for such essentials themselves.
Organiser and postman Joe Elms has so far, made two visits to the hospital to deliver the items on behalf of his colleagues. ‘I would like to thank everyone for their donations,’ he said. ‘This is a cause very close to our hearts with Wexham being on our doorstep and so many wives of colleagues at HWDC working there.’
International operations communication and engagement lead, Bob Lawrence, said: ‘Joe Elms is a member of our HWDC night shift despatch team and a tireless supporter of Wexham Park Hospital having regularly raised money for the staff there.
‘While our NHS heroes are facing unprecedented times and huge additional strain, Joe has been giving his all to support those heroes, who are putting their lives at risk every day in the fight against this terrible virus.’
Last Christmas, Joe made sure the young patients who were stuck on the children’s ward of Wexham Park Hospital over Christmas received a bit of Christmas cheer when he delivered toys bought thanks to HWDC colleagues’ fundraising efforts.
