Colleagues at Ruislip Delivery Office have raised more than £9,000 for the NHS by delivering their rounds in fancy dress.
Ruislip delivery line manager Pat Marrey donned his ‘Lucky Leprechaun’ costume and together with 30 other colleagues - dressed as Cruella de Ville, Peter Crouch, Donald Trump, Flash and Grotbags to name just a few - delivered the day’s post in aid of NHS Charities Together.
Postman, Paul Quinnell (pictured as Bananaman), said: ‘The response we had when we were out in our costumes was just fantastic.
‘Going out in fancy dress to raise some money for the NHS is one thing. But going out dressed like this to help raise a few smiles and take people’s minds off everything that is going on is also special.’
Pat Marrey, whose daughter got him his costume said: ‘There was a real spring in everyone’s step on the day as we all had the same aim, to make as much money as possible for the frontline workers in the NHS, who are doing such an incredible job at the moment.
‘We’ve had colleagues come back and say that some of their elderly customers have been knocking on their windows to say hello.
‘With a lot of our vulnerable customers, seeing us delivering their post is often the only contact they’ll have with another person all day. This is the kind of thing our people are doing out there, they’re looking after their communities. Thanks to everyone for their amazing efforts. Everyone at Ruislip should be proud of themselves.’
Paul said the volume of mail they’re receiving at the moment has gone up tenfold. ‘People are at home ordering stuff and we’re doing our best to deliver,’ he said. ‘Customers seem much more appreciative now. They can see that we’re out there making an effort and taking risks. We’re out there every day doing the best job we can for them.’
