That’s the spirit

Colleagues have clean hands in Edinburgh thanks to Leith Gin

A Leith-based gin distillery has kindly donated a number of bottles of hand sanitizer to colleagues in Edinburgh.

Leith Gin, which stopped producing spirits in order to make free hand sanitiser for vulnerable people at the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, has started fundraising to keep production going.

Working around the clock, the distillery has so far, provided more than 12,000 bottles of sanitiser, produced in accordance with WHO guidelines.

They have been distributed to care homes, healthcare workers, police officers and elderly or vulnerable people around Leith.

Leith Gin, which has already spent £35,000 of its own money, on production of the not-for-profit gel, has set up a Crowdfunder to help continue the philanthropic project.

Keith Fraser, Edinburgh East delivery office manager, said: ‘One of my postwomen, Sandra Hoy heard that Leith Gin were producing high-strength hand sanitiser and so contacted the company on Facebook.

‘I then contacted the owners directly and they very kindly offered to provide us with more than a dozen boxes. It was a superb gesture in these difficult times.

‘Our delivery colleagues are playing a critical role during this current crisis and to get support from a local business was testament to the excellent service our people are providing for the people of Edinburgh.’
