Health Secretary reiterates our key role delivering PPE for the NHS

We are currently working in partnership with the Ministry of Defence (MoD), eBay and Clipper Logistics to support a major Government initiative to ensure that frontline health and social care workers receive the personal protective equipment (PPE) they need.

Speaking about the Government's strategy for helping care home patients and staff, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has announced that there will be more PPE, including eye protection, aprons, gloves, gowns, hand sanitiser and masks, for workers, supplied directly by Royal Mail.

‘We’ve introduced testing for all social care colleagues and members of their households who need a test,’ said the Health Secretary. ‘At the same time, we’re again increasing PPE supplies to social care…this will be integrated with the NHS supply chain central PPE logistical operations with kit shipped directly to social care providers by Royal Mail.’

A new online ordering site has been developed to enable primary care, community care and social care providers to request critical PPE from a central inventory. Orders will be managed in line with the published guidance from Public Health England (PHE) and delivered by us.

Royal Mail is currently providing final mile delivery to NHS local health authority locations, GP practices and care homes.

We are working flat out in partnership with the Ministry of Defence (MoD), eBay and Clipper Logistics to ensure that frontline health and social care workers receive the PPE they need.

In addition to the key role we have been entrusted with regarding the delivery and return of coronavirus test kits to NHS and social care frontline staff, this is another example of how we are using our unrivalled network to support the fight against the ongoing covid-19 pandemic.
