Medicinal magic

Gloucester’s Vicky Field helps twin girls get a good night’s rest

A mum of bouncing baby twins received a special delivery after she poured her heart out to Gloucester postwoman, Vicky Field.

Beth Medlicott, mum of one-year-old twins Winnie and Floss, was worried sick at not having any medication to help her baby girls feel better after they developed a nasty cough.

But her plea was heard by Vicky, who did what so many colleagues have been doing recently to help customers in need, by going the extra mile after her round had finished to deliver a bottle of Calpol, the sticky pink potion beloved by parents the world over.

‘I was having a cry to myself when my postie came to the door,’ Mrs Medlicott told Gloucestershire Live. ‘My premature twins have got lung disease, and both have a heavy cold with the most awful chesty cough. I had been trying to get some Calpol or cough products or anything to help them but couldn’t find anything and this along with the worry of everything has been getting me down.

‘Anyway, I spilled all this out to our postwoman, Vicky, who later messaged me to say that she had got me a bottle! She drove to my house after her working hours to drop it off so that we could hopefully get some sleep! It was such a kind gesture. She is always very good but really made my day and restored my faith in humanity! She really deserves some praise.

Vicky said she was frustrated at seeing supermarket shelves so often empty and knew how Beth was feeling.

‘It was a real team effort to get a bottle of Calpol,’ she said. ‘My colleagues back in the Gloucester South Delivery Office managed to help find one, as did my friends in the horse community I belong to. I was so glad I could help the family get a good night’s sleep.’

Gloucester South delivery line manager, Ashley Rawsthorne, said: ‘Vicky is incredibly hard working as is the team that she works within. The team have all pulled together during these unfamiliar times and have shown nothing but dedication and care to their colleagues and members of the community.

‘Vicky is very considerate and thoughtful when it comes to her customers on her duty and she went above and beyond her descriptive roll to help the family in need showing great kindness and community spirit. I think it’s really important at a time like this for the public to know that we are there for them if they need us.

‘I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Vicky and all the other members of my team for their dedication and efforts during what is an extremely stressful and emotive time.’
