Gift them a hand

Colleagues at Leyland and Longridge Delivery Offices did an eggs-cellent job of ensuring local children had enough chocolate eggs to scoff over the Easter weekend.
Having been so impressed with the sheer number and quality of rainbow paintings adorning the windows of customers’ front windows in recognition of the amazing work key workers and colleagues on delivery continue to do every day, the teams decided to hold an Easter competition.
After deciding to make life a little east-ier for the dozens of kids spending the long weekend in lockdown, colleagues donated Easter eggs to households with the most colourful artwork on display.
Leyland delivery line manager, Sarah Jones, said: ‘Each office collected a fantastic bundle of Easter eggs, which were very generously donated by colleagues, customers and local businesses and then delivered then to customer’s doorsteps in time for the Easter weekend.
‘Postwomen, Michelle Peet and Lauren Andrew of Leyland and Longridge Delivery Offices organised the collections in their retrospective offices and put a huge amount of work in. The efforts that the girls have gone to in order to organise this, in such a difficult period, has been nothing short of outstanding.
‘The contributions made by the staff in both offices to pull off their vision hasn’t gone unnoticed. I feel it shows the very best of Royal Mail and its staff and the key role we play in the community. These have been difficult times, but everyone has really appreciated the support and generosity of their customers and were very happy to get involved in giving something back to their local communities.’
Lauren Andrew (pictured) delivered an Easter hamper to the household that was judged to be the overall winner. After she suggested the idea of running the competition to her colleagues, she said: ‘I was overwhelmed with the support I received from both them and the local community. It has promoted a sense of togetherness, which I feel is key in these difficult times.
‘It was really nice to see the surprise and thanks on the children’s faces as they received their gifts and it was really welcomed after a tough few weeks.’
Michelle Peet added: ‘It was just an idea we had to keep people’s spirits up locally as it must be difficult for children to get their heads around the current situation we’re in. It has also cheered up everyone in the team seeing all the efforts customers have gone to while we’re completing our deliveries.
‘It was more than worth all the effort seeing the children’s faces when they received their eggs!’
One of Michelle’s customers left the following note in thanks: ‘To the postlady, thank you very much for the chocolate egg! Also, thank you very much for all your hard work during the covid-19 pandemic. Remember to stay home when possible and to stay safe. Have a nice Easter!’
