Feeling good

When Vicky Jones, a customer from Cowbit, found a note from Spalding postwoman, Elaine Barron-Clark on her doorstep, it made her day.
Elaine’s note, which read: ‘Love the beautiful pictures, love from your postie X,’ was written in response to the colourful drawings adorning the front windows of the family home.
Like so many children across the country, who have been busy scribbling messages of thanks, such as the one pictured, to our people, Mrs Jones’s eight-year-old daughter, Hannah, had drawn pictures of rainbows, butterflies and flowers as a gesture of thanks to all the key workers like us who continue to keep the country connected.
In addition to her pictures, Hannah had also written motivational messages such as, 'Be happy', and 'All you need is rainbows and magic' to keep people positive throughout the ongoing lockdown.
Hannah’s mum Vicky told Spalding Today: ‘I posted this on Facebook to say thank you. I didn't realise it would go so far. It started with the rainbows that people have been putting up in their windows to make people smile and Hannah said she also wanted to make people smile.
‘We were contacted after by Elaine, to say she had taken a photo to share on the Royal Mail Instagram page.’
Spalding delivery line manager, Kristen Hubbard, said: ‘Over the last few weeks we have been inundated with messages and pictures from customers across the country in praise of the extra lengths our people have been going - just like Elaine - during the coronavirus crisis to raise spirits.
‘We know that local communities really value what our postmen and women are doing in these challenging times, and we’re really proud of them, too.’
Meanwhile, in West Dunbartonshire, a customer put a box of treats on her doorstep to thank colleagues for everything they are doing.
Dumbarton community carer, Alicja Tomar, who works with the elderly told colleagues to help themselves to the goodies, which included chocolate bars, Pringles, crisps, fruit and various different drinks.
Mrs Tomar also left a note, which read: ‘Dear Postman, Thank you so much for your hard work at this difficult time and putting yourself in the front line! Please help yourself to snacks and drinks from the box. I used gloves putting them in there and the box has been wiped with antibacterial wipes, so they are virus free.’
