Everyday heroes

A schoolboy from Stoke-on-Trent is so happy that he and his family are still receiving post during the current lockdown that he’s been finding ways to thank our people.
Six-year-old Ben Parr has started leaving thank you notes in the window of the family’s home in the hope of putting a smile on the face of colleagues, who are continuing to do such an incredible job delivering for our customers.
Ben’s proud mum, Katie Wood, told the Stoke-on-Trent Sentinel: ‘He said he wanted to make them smile as they are all working while the coronavirus is out there. He’s also been drawing “stay safe” pictures for our family. It’s all about making people happy.
‘Yesterday was the first morning the postwoman had seen it as we put it up the previous day after the postie had been. She ran to the door and we could hear her reading it. We saw her walk off and the smile on her face was amazing to see. Ben said to me after she had been that it had made the postwoman smile, which made him happy.’
She said her son now waits by the door each morning as soon as he sees colleagues arrive so that he can watch his letter being read through the window.
Thousands of customers continue to send letters to their local papers to thank our people. They include, a Mrs A Thorne, who said: ‘While of course the nursing people deserve our grateful thanks at the moment, I wonder if you could put out a ‘thank you’ message to the Royal Mail people who seem to be working as though nothing was wrong.’
‘Can I just bring everybody’s attention to our glorious postmen and women,’ said a Mr Bryan Bartlett. ‘We have all shown our appreciation to the NHS staff and carers and they are well deserved of it, bless them, but can we spare a small thought for our postmen and women. They have to deal with all our mail and parcels, and they are all out in all kinds of atrocious weather to deliver them. So, when your letter/parcel arrives, just think of how it got there.’
Finally, Kevin Nelson, said: ‘Thanks to all the postal staff who are still delivering mail. I’m in lockdown in a care home and without their hard work, I wouldn’t have my post or magazines, which I can’t go out to buy.’
Meanwhile, our customers on Twitter, continue as ever, to sing our praise.
