#EachforEqual

Sunday 8 March was International Women’s Day 2020

Sunday was International Women's Day (IWD), a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, while also marking a call to action for accelerating gender equality.

The IWD 2020 #EachforEqual campaign theme is drawn from a notion of 'collective individualism.' We are all parts of a whole. Our individual actions, conversations, behaviours and mindsets can have an impact on society. Collectively, we can play a part in accelerating gender equality.

Collective action and shared responsibility for driving a gender equal world is key. We can all actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, celebrate women's achievements, and make change happen.

Liz Law, head of our Women’s steering group, said: ‘We want to have an inclusive working environment where each of us are happy to come to work at Royal Mail. One way of achieving this is by having more women in the workplace.’

Throughout the UK, colleagues have been hosting individual events to support IWD. The Kent Women’s network is celebrating IWD 2020 today, Monday 9 March, with an event at Medway Mail Centre. All colleagues are welcome to meet the team and learn more about diversity and inclusion as well as career and development opportunities at Royal Mail.

On Tuesday 10 March, our national Women’s steering group are hosting an event at the Phoenix Centre in London to celebrate this year’s theme – look out for coverage in your March Courier.

Meanwhile, the Chester & North Wales Leadership Team have been celebrating colleagues’ achievements and raising awareness against bias, and the Home Counties North leadership team (pictured) are demonstrating their support for IWD by pledging that each service delivery leader member will formally mentor at least one female colleague to support development and progression.

Take action

Women's equality can't wait. It's going to take everyone to think about what more they can do to promote inclusivity - all the time, everywhere.

For IWD 2020 and beyond, think about how you can support #EachforEqual. Post your #IWD2020 message on social media with your ‘hands out’ equal pose for a strong call-to-action in support of women everywhere.
