Amazon Logistics has announced it plans to open two new delivery depots in Plymouth and Ipswich.
A new 65,000sqft site (around the size of 1.5 football pitches) will replace the company’s existing temporary facility in Plymouth, employing an additional 10 on-site staff, and taking on an extra 15 contract delivery drivers. In total, the Plymouth site will support 25 in-house staff and more than 100 drivers.
In Ipswich, Amazon is building a 92,000sqft delivery depot (around the size of two football pitches), with plans to open this summer. It will create more than 40 permanent jobs at the delivery station and expects to work with 12 independent delivery companies with around 200 drivers.
Delivery stations are one of the last links in Amazon’s supply chain. Parcels are sent from larger fulfilment and sortation centres to delivery stations where they are picked up by local drivers and delivered to customers.
Our new facility in Warrington is located just a stone’s throw from some of our biggest customers – including Amazon. Our plan to turn the 32,000sqm facility into one of three fully-automated parcels hubs is part of our ‘turnaround and grow’ plans to extend our network and win in parcels.
The new space, which opened in the summer, replaced the former North West Regional Distribution Centre. It is larger than four football pitches laid together and has completely changed the way our people work.
