‘Thank you, stay safe’

The United Nations has issued a global thank you to postal workers for the fantastic job they are continuing to do in delivering customer’s mail throughout the world.
The Universal Postal Union and the UNI Global Union – an international federation – gave thanks to ‘all postal operators, postal unions and postal workers globally for their dedication and engagement to keeping the postal network running in times of crisis.’
Christy Hoffman, UNI Global Union general secretary, said: ‘In a time of social distancing, postal workers are delivering necessary provisions and connecting us to each other. The safety of these frontline employees is our first priority, and the proper implementation of these international standards will protect workers as they deliver an essential, universal service to our communities.’
Every day, our people out on their rounds see and receive messages and gestures of thanks from customers grateful that we are continuing to deliver their post during these challenging times.
Sophie Myatt, an eight-year-old girl from Blurton, Stoke-on-Trent, gave this thank you card (pictured) to Trevor Harding, her local postman, who said he was ‘absolutely over the moon’ with the gesture and had shared it with the office.
Stoke-on-Trent delivery line manager, Andy Copestake, said the card had ‘put a smile on everyone’s face and acted as a poignant reminder that during this tough time for the nation, with kindness and consideration for everybody around us, coronavirus will never take the “Great” out of Great Britain.’
Meanwhile, a young customer in Birkenhead, Merseyside, wrote the below special poem thanking Delivery colleagues who continue to do us proud each and every day.
‘You are the ones who keep us all in touch,
thank you, thank you, thank you so much.
In times like these, we know for sure,
You’ll deliver mail to our front door.
‘You too have families, who must keep safe
While you’re delivering all over the place.
The nurses and doctors get all the praise,
But you are so vital in many, many ways.
‘So, take pride in the knowledge we appreciate
you turning up each day at our front gate.
There will always be a smile each time we see
a postman in shorts delivering letters to me.
‘From the nations isolated, we owe you so much
Thanks once again for keeping us in touch
Take care as you carry out your daily round
We want your families to be safe and sound.’
