‘A great place to work’

Millom Delivery Office win ‘Small Delivery Office of the Quarter’

Congratulations to the team at Millom Delivery Office, winners of the CEO and COO Award for ‘Small Delivery Office of the Quarter’ in Q1.

The new quarterly awards scheme, which is sponsored by Group CEO Rico Back and chief operating and finance officer Stuart Simpson, is based on the units that score most highly across four key areas of performance measurement: safety, First Class quality, cost and productivity.

At the end of the year, we'll be presenting awards to the overall 'units of the year,' recognising the best performing units nationally. Winners will receive money to spend at their unit.

Cumbria service delivery leader Ady Fielding presented the award to delivery office manager Stephen Simpson and the team.

When asked how he felt about the award, Stephen said: ‘It’s really just down to the local team I have here at Millom. They will come to work and gather in the rest room before their shift starts and have a coffee. I’ll be doing my pre-shift work and hear them chatting and laughing, it’s a great place to work.’

Postman and workplace coach Mike Carr, who in September this year will have completed an incredible 41 years’ service at Royal Mail, said: ‘Millom is a smallish town and is also quite isolated, so people round here all tend to know each other and look out for each other as well.

‘Colleagues here really care about providing the community with an excellent postal service.’

Postman John McGlaughlan, who is just approaching 30 years’ service, added: ‘Over the last 12 months, we have seen Amazon set up their own delivery service in our area.

‘Before that, they didn’t deliver here, but sent everything with us. It’s made a big difference to the number of parcels we deliver, so we’ve seen first-hand what the competition can do.

‘We have had to up our lapsing plans to remain efficient, as at one point, our Tracked volumes were at about half of what they were before Amazon moved into town. However, colleagues could see the reasons why and were happy to take on the extra workload.’
