Money matters
As part of this week’s 13th annual National Apprenticeship Week we are sharing stories about some of our apprentices to celebrate the contribution they make to Royal Mail and our future.
Today, we hear from Finance apprentice, Javen Twells, who joined the business in September 2017.
‘The first team I started with in Finance was Fees, part of Group Receivables,’ said Javen. ‘This team dealt with any services that a customer had such as PO Boxes and Collections.
‘My role involved making changes to and cancelling these services at the customer’s request. I was also involved with assisting PO Box set-ups while the automation process was implemented.
‘I then moved to Knowledge Management on the Business Insight and Data Provision team, where I produced a wide variety of reports, but mainly working within the Alterian system, which is used to produce reports on customer Redirections and Keepsafe services.’
Javen’s current placement is on the Specialist Billing/RIP Team (Revenue, Incentives and Pricing).
‘I like this team as it provides not only a variety of different work, but also some quite challenging tasks that my manager sends me, which differ from my regular daily work.
‘For me the best thing about being an apprentice is the fact that you can experience so many different areas of the business, all while studying towards gaining a great qualification.
‘I would definitely recommend the apprentice scheme to others as it allows such variety. Every year, you know that you’ll get to see a different area of work.
‘My favourite moment of the scheme to date, was when myself and another apprentice went to London for the day to hear a talk from chief operating officer and chief finance officer, Stuart Simpson. We also organised a meeting with the director of investor relations, which is something we’re both interested in.’
