‘They are our future’

Children’s Mental Health Week

This week is Children’s Mental Health Week, a time to highlight just how important it is for all of us that young people are able to be resilient and emotionally happy throughout their childhoods.

With 75% of mental health problems in adult life (excluding dementia) starting by the age of 18, it’s clear that the sooner we can spot the signs in childhood, the better.

Our charity partner, Action for Children works to identify the signs and behaviours that could point to a child or young person needing support to maintain their mental wellbeing through their teenage years and into adulthood.

Press play to hear Action for Children’s national programme lead - Mental Health, Sue Rogers talk about how important it is to highlight young people’s mental health this Children’s Mental Health Week.

‘They are our future,’ said Sue. ‘They are the future workforce, they’re the future community, they’re our future parents – we need them to be well, we need them to be resilient, we need them to be happy.’

If you have urgent concerns about your child’s mental health and wellbeing, please speak to your GP or call the Young Minds parents helpline on 0808 802 5544 for advice.
