Bringing out the kindness in Britain

Be part of it and send a home-made card with a message of goodwill to a stranger, and have someone allocated to send a card to you.

The Mental Health Collective’s Kindness-by-Post project enables strangers from across the UK to exchange cards with messages of goodwill, kindness and encouragement at difficult moments in the year.

A Kindness-by-Post exchange is like a great big secret Santa for random acts of kindness. Members of the public can sign up online to send a home-made card with a message of goodwill, and be allocated someone to send a card to them.

Sending some kindness in the post is a small thing, but sometimes small things can make a big difference. There has been a lot of focus on division these past 12 months and when we’re going through tough times it’s easy to think we’re all alone in the world.

The Kindness-by-Post project aims to demonstrate that we're not on our own - and that, whatever else is going on in the country, kindness is out there too. If you’d like to send a little kindness by post, and give a gesture of hope this Valentine’s Day, please sign up by Tuesday 4 February at www.greatbritishvalentine.uk.

Penny Amatt, corporate responsibility and community investment manager, said: ‘The Great British Valentine is a fantastic initiative by the Mental Health Collective. The project is designed to spread random acts of kindness between strangers the length and breadth of the country using the magic of our postal service.

‘Our people reach every corner of the UK. Let’s support our local communities, start a new tradition and spread kindness all over the UK. I’ll certainly be getting involved this year.’
