One to XI: Matthew Carr

Continuing our series of former footballers with a Rebel Army title winner

The latest in our list of ex-professional footballers is someone who really enjoyed a Turkish delight…

3. Mathew Carr

Matt was a bruising centre half for Cork City, Waterford and Yeovil Town, before becoming a delivery manager in Middlesbrough.

‘As a huge fan of The Boro, I modelled himself on club legend Tony Mowbray,’ said Matt. ‘At the level I played at though, what I lacked in skill I made up for in attitude.’

Despite his modesty, he won league titles for Waterford and Cork City and played in the European Cup. This continental foray included an appearance against Galatasaray in Turkey, where he played against world-class players in what is considered one of the game’s most intimidating settings.
