Drum roll please…
Drumming postman Paul Holden powered through an epic eight-hour gig to raise an incredible £1,400 for terminally-ill youngsters.
Paul, based at Rotherham Delivery Office, staged his second Drummer Endurance event in aid of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice. He was thrilled to smash his £400 target.
Nine bands joined him on stage for the mammoth concert, which featured rock, pop, indie and heavy metal music, and was attended by scores of fans.
Paul staged his first Drummer Endurance charity event 10 years ago in memory of his mum, who died when he was a teenager.
‘I’d done it before and I thought this time it might not go as well but it went better than I ever expected,’ he said. ‘I was absolutely blown away. The crowd was phenomenal.’
Paul, a musician for 25 years and postman for 11, drummed his way through the day from 1.30pm to 10.15pm, taking brief breaks between bands.
‘I was quite happy I didn’t do myself any serious injuries,’ he said. ‘On the day I was fine, the adrenalin kept me going. The day after wasn't too bad but it was the Monday it hit me like a sledgehammer.’
Despite this, Paul has not ruled out a third endurance gig. ‘People said “never say never”, so you never know!’
