Mission Christmas

Every year Reading postman, Martin Absolom organises the annual Christmas Jumper Day to raise money for the Duchess of Kent Hospice, which provides palliative, neurological and bereavement support.
This year, the team at Reading West Delivery Office (pictured) raised a fantastic £200 for the hospice just from their Christmas Jumper Day fundraising alone.
Martin Absolom said: ‘Christmas Jumper Day is always a great day. We’re lucky to have such great camaraderie in the office and everyone is always willing to get involved. I’d also like to thank the managerial team for their support.’
Delivery office manager, Alan West, said: ‘Not only did we raise £200 for such a worthy cause, our Tracked results and quality have been amazing with only 0.93% not scanned at the doorstep.
‘As a manager I can’t tell you how proud I am of our colleagues. They work incredibly hard, but also find the time during such a busy period to give back to the local community. I really can’t tell you how much I respect their efforts.’
Meanwhile in Cardiff, the late shift and night shift teams raised more than £300 between them for our charity partner, Action for Children. A huge well done also to the Plymouth Mail Centre late shift team who have been working together these past few months raising money via fancy dress events, cake sales and by donating their 20p pieces for Plymouth’s Shekinah Mission, a Devon and Cornwall-based charity that provides opportunities for people recovering from homelessness, drug and alcohol issues, offending behaviours or mental ill health.
Plymouth production control manager, Alison Clace, said: ‘The team have raised £728, which has funded 42 boxes full of warm hats, scarves, gloves, toiletries and sweets all wrapped and ready to be given as Christmas presents for those in desperate need.
‘We also have some food bank donations to follow. Well done to everyone, your gifts will make someone’s Christmas.’
