Charity begins at home

The Rowland Hill Fund can help ease financial pressures this Christmas

Our in-house charity, the Rowland Hill Fund (RHF), was established in 1882 as a memorial to the great postal reformer and founder of the modern postal service, Sir Rowland Hill, who retired as Secretary of the Post Office in 1864.

From the earliest days of its existence, when it helped colleagues who fell on hard times during Queen Victoria’s reign, through to the present day, the Fund has pursued its aim of providing financial help wherever it occurs among colleagues, past and present.

In 2018/19 the RHF distributed more than £470,000 and dealt with 431 cases, of which the diverse nature of help provided indicates that there is an ongoing need for the financial support they give.

Rowland Hill Fund trustee Dr Shaun Davis, our global director compliance and sustainability, said: ‘Charity begins at home and means we can reach out and help support our people if they’re suffering from financial hardship.

‘Often it’s a challenge at Christmas. The Rowland Hill Fund can help take some of those pressures off. We’ve got some fantastic people working there, who can help take you through the application process.’
