Don't discard

Please reuse your rubber bands and ensure you don’t drop them on the street

Although elastic bands are one of the many useful tools we use to help us deliver mail, they are also among the most environmentally-harmful items we use on a daily basis.

Furthermore, discarded elastic bands are all too often the subject of angry customer complaints.

Dropping reusable elastic bands in the street is against the law. Discarded bands are also extremely damaging to our reputation, not to mention harmful to both the environment and to wildlife.

Please take extra care with the elastic bands you use, particularly when on delivery, and ensure you don’t drop them in the street. Save them in your pockets, or your delivery pouch or trolley, to ensure you can return them to your office for reuse.

What can you do?

Follow these simple steps to prevent rubber band littering, and in turn, protect both the environment and our reputation:

  • Place your used bands in your pouch or pocket when you’re out delivering
  • Follow any processes in place at your office to collect and reuse bands
  • Encourage others to pick up and reuse bands
  • Prevent breakages by choosing the right sized bands for your bundle
  • Pick up any discarded rubber bands you see on the street
  • Accept rubber bands back from customers.
