Stand out dedication

For a mother of young kids, one colleague’s patience and consideration are a blessing

Kids can sometimes be a handful - something that mum, Abi Barker, knows only too well.

Her children are pre-school age and so when someone’s at the door – the postman, say – she often isn’t able to answer it quickly. To compound her troubles, the doorbell often doesn’t work. But she’s developed a cunning routine with her postie.

‘He takes the time to wait,’ she said. ‘He knows I have to wait until the children are safe before I can come to the door. If he didn’t wait, I’d had to drive to the delivery office to collect my parcels – which would be even more of a faff.’

Abi’s been at the house for just over a year – and says she notices when her usual postie is off.

‘It’s been superb,’ she said. ‘You can definitely tell when he’s not around and someone else deputises for him. He’s working to a deadline but he’s always happy to chat.’

In fact, the last time he showed up at her door, he had an extra-special delivery for the kids. ‘He brought them Postman Pat stickers – they were over the moon, so excited!’ she said. ‘He just asked if they would want them. It was really thoughtful.’

Abi says that it’s this level of service that helps us stand out in a crowded market. ‘I get lots of stuff delivered,’ she said. ‘But Royal Mail’s dedication helps it stand out.’
