One vision

Parcel lead, Jessica Lewis and her parcel sort machine (PSM) team at Swindon Mail Centre are going from strength to strength.
The records have been tumbling with Jess at the helm as her team keep hitting those PSM milestones.
These include:
- Over 10,000 items processed an hour on effective throughput on a shift span - the PSM was sold to the business to achieve a 7,500 throughput per hour at its optimum performance
- Over 11,000 items processed an hour on total inducted on a shift span
- 84,110 items total de-stacked in a single shift – no-one before had hit more than 80,000
- 75,982 items successfully processed in a single shift – no-one had previously gone above 72,000.
‘I’m incredibly proud of what we have achieved as a team,’ said Jess. ‘We’ve been working towards these milestones for a while now and to have finally achieved it is just amazing.
‘We all have one vision and that’s to make the PSM as successful as we can – we’re certainly delivering that. We would not have achieved this success without the support of the management team, my shift manager Nadeem Rana, the engineering team and everyone else who has been involved throughout this parcels automation journey.’
Swindon plant manager, Daniel Williams, said: ‘84,000 items over eight hours on Induct with 76,000 successfully processed, is a fantastic achievement. On a daily basis, Jess and her team push the boundaries of what the PSM should achieve and I am very proud of her team’s achievements.’
We’re aiming for 80% automation by 2023/24. By then, we will have 40 parcel machines in our operation.
