Intersoft, a delivery management software solution that Royal Mail acquired in 2016, have won the Customer Service, Fulfilment & Delivery award at the 2019 Direct Commerce Innovator Awards.
Intersoft was formed in 1993, initially working with carriers to support them with their logistics and delivery needs. In 2007, the business won a tender to design a custom-based solution for the department store, Harrods which resulted in Intelligent Shopper. This enabled Harrods to handle shipments from multiple departments of its business, including its e-commerce department.
This was followed by a contract with P2P for which the solution was further developed to enable shipping for multiple remote clients and global despatch of e-commerce orders. P2P grew exponentially and held the market for international deliveries leaving Royal Mail needing to improve its legacy delivery management solution or face falling behind. Royal Mail approached Intersoft to develop an improved solution to replace its legacy systems.
Following our acquisition, Intersoft completely redeveloped its software with two points of focus. The ability to handle huge volumes of shipments with multiple locations and the provision of a flexible solution for use by any e-commerce business. The ‘big picture’ project required a portfolio of products to be developed over time, including domestic and international delivery solutions as well as returns management. It was named ProShipping.
Following the Direct Commerce Innovator Awards, the judges, said: ‘A phenomenal undertaking given the sheer numbers of Royal Mail clients and the parcel volumes they generate. It is impressive how much has been achieved to bring the Royal Mail parcels offering bang up to date.
‘It is also clear from this entry that the services currently accessible via ProShipping are set to expand in line with client demands and that there is a keen appetite on the part of Royal Mail to grow its share of the parcels market.’
Royal Mail continues to work very closely with Intersoft, continuously developing its solution. In the last 12 months, over 75 million Royal Mail shipments have been successfully processed through Intersoft by implementing a partnership that continues to grow and develop.
