Here we snow again

Flood-ravaged Britain was hit by more rain and snow over the weekend bringing further misery for thousands of people across the country.
After more than 130 flood warnings were put in place on Friday, the Met Office issued danger to life weather warnings stretching from central Wales to Doncaster - running through the Midlands.
Low pressure will swing in from the Atlantic during the start of this week heralding the start of another near nationwide drenching. Swathes of the country left devastated by torrential downpours have been warned of more to come.
The Environment Agency has said that further rainfall in the coming days could bring severe flooding to areas already affected by rising waters, such as South Yorkshire and Derbyshire.
Last week, Dartmoor was blanketed in heavy snow after temperatures plummeted across parts of Devon and South Wales causing treacherous driving conditions. This week, temperatures are due to nosedive bringing further snow to high ground.
Going forward, plunging temperatures are expected to bring harsh frosts and the risk of further snow amid predictions that bitterly cold weather will largely hold out for the rest of the year as chances of a white Christmas grow.
Although parts of the country have resembled a winter wonderland in recent days – that hasn’t stopped us delivering for our customers. Please take extra care as you go about your work this week.
Staying safe in adverse weather conditions
- Wear safety boots rather than shoes to support your ankles
- Ensure you always take your ice grippers/spikeys and use them when snow or compacted ice is deep enough to allow them to penetrate and grip
- Be aware of kerb edges, potholes and uneven surfaces that may be hidden by snow
- Plan ahead, assess your route and take small steps. Only access areas if it is safe to do so
- Anticipate ice. Areas that appear wet may be black ice, approach with caution
- When entering buildings, do so slowly. Water, melted ice and snow may make the floor wet and slippery
- Be seen. Wear appropriate warm, waterproof, hi-visibility clothing
- If driving in severe weather, make sure you drive slowly and leave a large gap behind the vehicle in front.
