South Midlands Mail Centre food bank has been helping support local families in need

Colleagues at South Midlands Mail Centre (SMMC) have been generously contributing to a food bank set up by postman, John Laure.

John has been collecting food and toiletry donations for individuals and families in need for more than five months and regularly takes the donations he receives to his local food bank.

‘Firstly, I have to say a big thanks to our late shift manager, Sarah O’Shaughnessy for giving me permission to start a food bank collection point at SMMC,’ said John. ‘I’d also like to say a huge thank you to everyone at SMMC for all their donations.

‘The food bank collection point is currently in our reception area so if any colleagues feel able to help those less fortunate than themselves, please put your donations in the basket. ‘These donations really help those who are facing hard times. I’d like to keep doing this for as long as I can. Whenever I take the donations to the food bank, I’m sent a thank you letter, which I print off and put on the wall at the mail centre.

‘My hope is to encourage more colleagues across the business to start food bank collection points in their units to help those who are struggling in their area.’
