Invaluable service

Delivery line manager and Army reservist Harry has been providing a vital link to troops based in Northern Ireland

High Wycombe North delivery line manager, Harry Davis is a member of the British Army Reserve Postal & Courier branch.

An army reservist of three years, Harry’s unit is the 871 Postal & Courier Squadron, part of a Logistics Support Regiment, based in Marlow.

Getting mail delivered isn’t just important in the Army – it’s vital. Postal & Courier operators as they are known, play a key role, getting mail to soldiers, sailors and airmen so they can stay in touch with their friends and family.

Every year, Harry completes two weeks of mandatory work as part of his minimum commitment. As a Royal Mail reservist, this is something the business happily accommodates to help Harry perform his duties.

‘I’ve just come back from spending two weeks in Northern Ireland where I was based at British Forces Post Office (BFPO) 801 in Lisburn,' he said. ‘My role was to provide a postal service for troops in 38 (Irish) Brigade, who are based there.

'BFPO 801 enables the troops, who are deployed there, to send and receive mail via a post office counter to and from their loved ones back on the British mainland.

‘Royal Mail as an employer are brilliant with accommodating the time off I need to perform my 27-days minimum commitment. This consists of a two-week continuous placement on top of training weekends.’

Royal Mail reservists
