Binding commitment

We have written to the CWU - we want to remove the threat of a strike during our peak period

We have written to CWU promising to commence open and serious discussions, without preconditions in a positive environment.

But this can only happen if CWU provides a binding commitment to remove the threat of strike action for the rest of 2019.

The life of the recent ballot result would extend for the same time as the pause on industrial action.

You can hear from Ricky McAulay, national service delivery director, in an RMtv Special, which will be available on Content on Demand later today.

This is a significant step. We hope CWU agrees so that we can deliver for our customers at our busiest time.

Delivering for our customers and the country

As we all know, Christmas is a key period for our customers. We don’t want to let them down.

There may also be a general election in December – our peak period. We play an important role in elections, handling polling cards, pre-election candidate mailings and postal votes. We have a great track record in delivering election mail, because we work so well as a team. Everybody has a part to play and everyone does their very best, and that’s why we are so successful at delivering election mail.

We have honoured and want to honour our agreements. We are committed to further talks. We want to reach resolution.
