Spin when you’re winning

A team from the South Coast survived an adrenaline rush to remember when they abseiled down the side of Portsmouth’s iconic landmark, Spinnaker Tower.
Area programmes manager, Claire Phillips from Alder Hills Delivery Office, plant manager, Stuart King from Dorset mail centre and Southampton deputy manager Distribution, Wendy Holdaway joined area leadership team support manager, Valerie Emm, from Southampton Mail Centre, for the nerve-jangling descent in aid of our charity partner, Action for Children.
‘The tower is 170 metres tall so this was a huge challenge for us as two of the group are scared of heights!’ said Valerie.
‘Our first date was cancelled due to high winds on the day. But on our second try, it was a glorious day with little wind and beautiful views across Portsmouth, the Solent and the Isle of Wight.
‘Friends and family came down to watch and cheer us on as one by one we descended the tower. It was a truly cross-functional team within our Directorate with us representing Deliveries, Processing, Distribution and Business Partners.
‘Between the four of us, we managed to raise more than £2,670 for Action for Children, so we all feel really proud of ourselves.’
