Meet Chris

Bradford postman Chris Robbins used to be in a successful rock band before his career was cut short through no fault of his own.
As well as being in his words, ‘the world’s clumsiest postman,’ Chris is also working on his first novel. Today, he shares his story about what it is he loves about the job.
‘Hi, I’m Chris. I’m a postman. I’m a musician too. And a writer. Oh, and also a foodie. I’m a dad of two and I’m engaged to be married to my Baby Mamma.
‘Some time back, in what seems a lifetime ago, I played bass guitar and sang in a rock band. We were lucky enough to tour the world singing songs that I’d written, to people who sang them back to me whilst I was on stage in London, or Los Angeles, or New York, or Paris – to name but a few of the glorious cities I’ve seen.
‘Whilst on tour in the USA, I was hit by a car travelling pretty fast. It put me in a coma. I’m obviously very thankful that I awoke from it, but that meant that my time in a rock band more or less came to an end.
‘As I gained back my strength, I scoured the streets, the web and the newspapers in search of a job. I found a few, but none that I stuck with until I came across an ad online telling me to become a postman.
‘It’s something I always fancied doing. And it’s a decision that, to this day, I have never regretted. I really do enjoy my job. For all its flaws, it has made me a stronger, wiser person. It allows me time to see my beautiful family, and it allows me time to pursue my hobbies. Royal Mail has even given me a platform to pursue my writing in the form of this blog. I write because it excites me the way that music used to do, back in the day.
‘I’ve even started a novel. I still have a few chapters to go before I unleash it out into the big bad world, but perhaps when I do, you’ll support your fellow postie and buy a copy – or five. But I promise I’ll never promote it door-to-door!’
