Award-winning wellbeing

Royal Mail wins the ‘Best Mental Health Wellbeing Strategy of the Year’ award at the WSB Awards 2019

Royal Mail has won the Best Mental Health Wellbeing Strategy of the Year award at the Workplace and Savings and Benefits Awards (WSB) 2019.

The WSB Awards recognise both employer and provider excellence. Now in their seventh year, the awards aim to find and recognise the employers which have the best benefits teams and offerings to staff and have done the most to improve these over the past 12 months.

In addition, the awards look to reward the best pension and benefit providers - recognising those that have done the most to help employers and their staff over the past year.

The awards ceremony took place on Thursday 5 September at the Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square, London.

Following the win, the WSB judges said: ‘This was an exemplary award that showed the impact that responsible and caring businesses can have on their employees on a scale that is unprecedented.’

Dr Shaun Davis, global director of safety, health, wellbeing and sustainability, who received the award on behalf of Royal Mail, said: ‘I’m delighted that Royal Mail has been recognised for the very important and valuable work we have done to support the mental health and wellbeing of our people.

‘I feel very privileged to be able to accept this award, but I emphasise that I am doing it on behalf of the organisation as it is a reflection on all of us and the great work we have done.

‘Given that World Suicide Prevention Day falls on Tuesday 10 September, and World Mental Health Day on Thursday 10 October, the timing of this win could not be better.’

Healthy minds matter

One in four of us are affected by poor mental health. Through our mental health strategy, ongoing awareness campaigns and mental health charity partnerships, we are committed to improving the conversation and support offered to colleagues around mental health issues.

In October 2017, we launched our ‘Because Healthy Minds Matter’ mental health strategy, with its four core aims:

  • increase awareness of mental health
  • decrease the stigma associated with mental health
  • signpost colleagues to useful tools and support
  • and ensure our people know where to go in a crisis.

Our Everyday People film, produced by Royal Mail in collaboration with Action for Children, Mind and Mental Health UK, aims to highlight the everyday occurrence of mental health issues among people of all age groups.
