Attraction beyond gender

Go on… join colleagues for the UK’s first Bi-Pride! Be part of it at Bi-Pride London

This Saturday our LGBT+ & Friends network are proud to be representing Royal Mail at the UK’s first ever Bi-Pride at the Round Chapel in Hackney, London.

The event, which promises two entertainment stages and a community stalls area, comes ahead of the internationally marked Bi-Visibility Day on Friday 23 September - a real opportunity for all our LGBT+ colleagues and their allies to stand up in support of their bi colleagues.

As with all the Pride events we attend, we want colleagues to have the opportunity to celebrate being themselves. Whether you are bi, bisexual, biromantic, pan, pansexual, panromantic, poly, polysexual, polyromantic, queer, fluid, heteroflexible, homoflexible, something totally different, a combination of these, or even no label at all – this event is for you!

In July, Leicester postwoman Lucy Surti (pictured with Giulianna Aversano) took over our Instagram feed for Trans* Pride in Brighton – click here to watch her in action. You can also watch ILSM operator Rosie Chapman, from South Midlands Mail Centre tell us why she’s looking forward to Bi-Pride. You can catch Rosie on Instagram and Facebook this Saturday.

August saw colleagues in Northern Ireland celebrate no less than four Pride parades in three cities and one town. Massive turnouts were reported in Belfast, Derry, Newry and the first ever Pride event in Larne. Click here to watch highlights from Belfast Pride.

Speaking after the 2019 Pride in Newry Parade, which took place on Saturday 31 August, work area manager, Andrew Brady from Northern Ireland Mail Centre, said: ‘Another fantastic expression of Pride in Newry City in the North of Ireland. A week of activities for all ending with a massive Pride Parade and open-air concert.’

Meanwhile, following the first ever Dover Pride, also on 31 August, Medway community champion Tim Hyde, said: ‘What a blast! The Royal Mail rainbow postbox and postbox postcards went down very well. Such a great atmosphere. Proud of my home town.’

As one of the UK’s largest employers, we are committed to putting equality and diversity at the heart of our business. Supporting Pride is another way we can celebrate our differences, reflect the communities we serve and promote Royal Mail as an equal opportunities employer and a true champion of LGBT+ colleagues and the wider LGBT+ community.

Remember, all Royal Mail colleagues and their friends and family are invited to celebrate the below Pride events:

  • Bi-Pride – 7 September
  • Dundee Pride – 21 September
  • Chester – 22 September

We want people to sign up to attend the Pride of your choice as early as possible as places are capped. To secure your places, please email pride@royalmail.com with your name, the number of people attending with you, which Pride you would like to attend and whether you would like to be on our much-loved Royal Mail rainbow float.
