Collaboration is key

Engagement and communication have been the watchwords for Nottingham North Delivery Office

This year, many of you said you feel more engaged and involved in the business.

We know experiences are different across the Group but with scores from our 2019 Employee Survey increasing in more than 1,000 teams, it’s clear we’re moving in the right direction.

A fantastic 60% of you said your experience of working at Royal Mail is positive, while 70% of you said you feel proud to work here -  that’s 15% higher than the benchmark for UK large organisations.

Engagement and communication have been the watchwords for Nottingham North Delivery Office, where colleagues have seen strong improvements in both areas since the 2018 survey.

With 118 staff split between two offices under one roof – North and Arnold – it’s a sizeable outfit, and communication between the two units needed to be better.

The priorities for Nottingham North delivery office manager Lyn McGirr, who joined the office around the time of the 2018 survey, were to identify where changes needed to be made and to involve frontline colleagues in those changes.

‘Things have definitely improved,’ said Ruben Fulcher, who has been a postman for 43 years. ‘We’re now getting more Worktime Listening and Learning (WTLL) sessions, with various videos, for example, on lifting and handling.’

Postman Des Gibbons, who is the office safety rep and CWU quality officer, said: ‘There’s more of a togetherness and engagement and focus groups have been put in place.

‘Safety awareness has also improved greatly and we now have a full complement of workplace coaches.’
