AB Tools is a family-run business based in Stoke-on-Trent. Started by Kevin Brown in 1991, it originally sold tools and trailers.

In the past decade, it has expanded its catalogue to include a huge range of products that are now shipped to more than 100 countries.

Kevin’s son Steve, who helps run the business day to day, said: ‘Royal Mail has always been there since the start. We’ve used them properly since 2008, before then we didn’t really send parcels, in those days we used to do trade shows.

‘We’ve now got 27 websites so international is a lot bigger. Anything up to 3.5kg within the UK goes Royal Mail First Class.

‘We’ve always used Royal Mail and we’re very loyal. We get so many calls from other couriers but if something works and it’s good, why upset the applecart?

‘Every single parcel that goes abroad now is fully tracked. Sometimes you send your stuff out and you’re thinking "is it going to get there as the delivery address is genuinely in the middle of nowhere?", and it does.

‘To manage to get a parcel there is pretty good. It works and there’s less hassle for us. If you keep a customer happy they’ll stay. You get one shot with people and if you become trusted that helps our brand.’

Steve said the Tracked service could be improved, with more details about where an item is delivered, but praised the service from his local depots.

‘If it’s feasible and possible they will work their hardest to get the results for you,’ he added.
