Dover’s John Rodgers aka Postman Pat scooters from Dover to Land’s End in aid of Autism UK

Dover postman John Rodgers, raised more than £1,600 for Autism UK by scootering almost 400 miles from Dover to Land’s End dressed as Postman Pat.

Not only did John make his Postman Pat uniform himself, he even customised his scooter and rode the distance with a version of ‘Jess the Cat’ perched on his handlebars, something the police assured him was perfectly legal!

Dover delivery office manager Paul Wrigley, said: ‘Congratulations to John from the Dover Delivery team. Everyone in the office was backing John and we all followed his adventures via text and social media – he had the loudest air horn I’ve ever heard!’

John said his ride to Land’s End was a fantastic experience, which all started when his son brought him a scooter and said: ‘Dad, we’re off to Land’s End.’

‘I have an autistic nephew and a friend with an autistic grandson,’ said John. ‘We were talking and said that it would be a good idea to raise some money for autism. That’s when the Postman Pat idea came to me.

‘My wife set about knitting me Jess the cat which sat on my handlebars throughout the journey. Being a postman, we just thought it was the right thing to do for the kids.

‘It took four days in all going on A and B roads all the way. We saw some amazing places and had some great laughs along the way staying in tents on campsites and in pub gardens. A few of the nights were a bit cold, but fortunately the weather stayed dry for us, which was very lucky!

‘I’d like to thank Paul Wrigley and all the Dover staff for their help and support for me doing this challenge.’
