Don’t be barking mad

Execute AVOID and stay safe on your delivery

As this year’s Dog Awareness Week campaign draws to a close, it’s important we continue to raise the profile of best practice and understand the impact of dog attacks on our people.

The number of dog attacks on postmen and women increases during summer holidays, when children and parents are at home and dogs are more likely to be out in the garden.

Always remember to AVOID a dog attack by:

A – avoid any interaction with dogs

V – value yourself: don't put yourself at risk

O – observe: keep your walk log up to date

I -  inform others of potential risks

D – defend yourself if necessary, using your delivery equipment.

Dr Shaun Davis global director of safety, health, wellbeing & sustainability says he’s pleased by all the support Dog Awareness Week has received internally and externally.

‘Keeping our people – our most valued asset – safe and well at work is of paramount importance to us.

‘What is concerning is that the number of dog attacks on postmen and women has risen across the country by 9%, compared with the previous year. I call on everyone to keep focused on dog attacks and I hope to be in a position next year to be reporting a much-improved results.’
