Scaling the clouds

This Friday 14 June, a team of daring adventurers from Group Legal will be testing their mettle as they take on the ‘Great Cloud Walker Challenge’ in the Peak District, in aid of Action for Children.
The three-part challenge starts at the stunning Tittesworth Reservoir with a thrilling 2km relay canoe race across the water. Teamwork and a hefty paddle is needed for participants to make it across the reservoir in good time and great form.
From the shallows of Tittesworth Reservoir, the intrepid 13 will carry on by foot for a 30km hike across the vast, rolling hills of the Peak District, where the Hen Clouds dominate the skyline.
This is no easy endeavour and the only way forward is to head up to gain a great ridge line and walk amongst the jagged gritstone outcrops, sculpted with curious formations like the Bawdstone boulder, mythically known to have healing powers.
The third and final challenge involves a hair-raising 100ft abseil down the sheer drops of the Roaches. The team will have to dodge the infamous Doxey Pools, where legend has it that if you stare into the icy shimmer of the pools for even just a moment, you’ll be pulled in by fierce mermaids. The only way out is via an abseil of epic proportions, rappelling over the razor edge cliff tops and down a sheer cliff face, before heading into the cool sanctuary of the ancient Black Forest, where the only sound to be heard is the flow of the enchanting Black Brook.
‘We’re all really excited but a little apprehensive about the challenge as it will certainly be a tough day with personal obstacles to overcome for many of us,’ said legal advisor, Clare Kamsika. ‘We’re hoping the rain holds off but if not, we’ll not let it dampen our spirits as it’s all for such an incredible cause.
‘Last year, the Group Legal charity challenge was the Derbyshire Three Peaks (pictured), when we managed to raise around £9,000 with matched giving! This year, we’re aiming higher. Although we’re all working hard to raise funds through friends, family and generous colleagues, we would be so grateful if you could please help us meet, or even surpass, our target.’
