On the road
Suzanne Lovelock, from our National Distribution Centre (NDC), has been a Christmas casual and OPG. Now she’s a qualified HGV driver.
Play the RMtv video above to join Suzanne on the road and see just where a Royal Mail career can take you.
‘I did the Class 2 and 3 at South Midlands,’ said Suzanne. ‘Then after I did my Class 1 licence, the job came up at NDC and I so transferred over there.
‘It is male-dominated but the attitude, particularly inside NDC because there are more women, isn’t: “Oh you’re not strong enough to do that” or anything like that. Everyone is more than happy to help you out.
‘In Royal Mail, it doesn’t matter where you want to go. There’s a pathway to get there and a support network to help you along the way.
‘You can leave school with nothing and you could potentially work your way all the way up the ladder.
‘I like Royal Mail. It’s good. We’ve been around for a long time. There’s job security, which you don’t get in a lot of other companies. So, in that respect, I like it a lot. The company does need to change to secure itself for the future though. But change is good. We can’t always do the same thing forever.
‘My music is my best friend. From dance music to rock music to RnB. You’ve got to have a good selection. Sing like nobody can hear you.’
